Our 3 day onsite programme  for the assessor qualification meets the requirements for awarding organisations who require assessors to hold a recognised qualification. It will support staff to provide excellent assessment for qualifications within your organisation. It will cover the key skills and knowledge that are required to ensure that the assessment meets the standard required for your awarding organisations. This is an excellent qualification to upskill your employees and provide resilience to your assessment teams. Over the 3 day taught programme, staff will complete all the knowledge required for the qualification and the observation requirements. To complete the qualification, they will gather and submit their work product evidence to their trainer to complete the qualification.

This qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

To ensure this is the right course for your staff:

  • they must have at least two candidates you can assess
  • they must be able to provide evidence of assessment in the workplace
  • they must be able to provide evidence of assessment in a simulated environment (for example, classroom, role play scenarios or workshop)
  • they will be observed by the tutor, or a suitable person from your workplace, working with a candidate.

At the induction, the tutor will check that this is the right course.  There are three assessor qualifications that are all recognised by awarding organisations:

  • Highfield Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
  • Highfield Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
  • Highfield Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

Each qualification requires evidence of skills in assessment. This means learners can only complete the qualification for the environment for which you assess. If they assess in simulated and workplace environments, CAVA is the right course. If they only assess in the workplace then they will complete the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment. Finally, if they only assess in simulated environments, for example, in a college or training environment, then the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement is the right qualification.

We offer all these qualifications and the tutor will ensure that staff are enrolled on the right course and completing the right qualification for their work role.

If staff are not currently working with learners, then the Level 3 Award in Understanding Assessment Principles and Practice may be more suitable.

The taught programme will ensure that all staff, whatever assessor qualification they require, will be supported to be successful. Even within the cohort, staff have different qualification needs, this will be met within the 3 day programme.

Finding the right course can sometimes feel overwhelming and confusing, please give us a call so we can help you make the right decision.

This is a 3 day taught programme for a minimum of 8 learners, taught onsite at your workplace or training venue. Learners will spend 3 days with our trainer (usually 9am – 3pm) and  they will be set 1-2 hours homework in the afternoon for independent study.  All learners will be issued with the course materials to support them in their independent study. All units are taught on this programme and completed in the week. Learners would be set an assignment each afternoon, which will be marked the following day. This will complete their portfolio of knowledge evidence.

While your member of staff is on the programme, they will continue to benefit from ongoing support from their class tutor, until the course is completed. Once the work product evidence has been submitted for assessment, their full certificate will be claimed; we usually expect this be within 12 weeks from the start of the course.

This programme has outstanding achievement rates, ensuring that staff achieve this demanding qualification within efficient timescale. The trainers on this programme are experienced assessors and lead IQAs who model best practice with engaging and active learning throughout the course. Evaluations from learners show that they enjoy the course and the positive impact this has had on their own assessor practice in their workplace. This course is excellent value for money as staff receive not only the qualification, but excellent CPD at their usual place of work saving you additional costs for travel and accommodation.

Staff will complete the 3 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Unit 2 – Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Unit 3 – Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

If staff are completing one of the other assessor qualifications, they will complete unit 1 and either unit 2 or 3, depending on the environment they are assessing in.

Assessment will be via a portfolio of evidence.

Unit 1 assessment

  • an assignment which covers assessment criteria. This can submitted in intervals for ongoing support and feedback from the expert tutor.
  • participate in a planned professional discussion with the tutor to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of assessment.

Unit 2/ 3 assessment

  • direct observation –  staff will be observed working with a candidate by the tutor or a suitable person in your workplace
  • work products to demonstrate competence in assessment
  • assessment records from two candidates (evidence of planning, assessment and feedback)
  • additional work product evidence, as required by the tutor, for example, emails, reflective accounts, minutes of meetings.

Staff will have 3 months from enrolment to complete the qualification, although learners are expected to complete in 4 weeks.

The cost is £695 per person for minimum of 8 (if you do not have 8 delegates, please contact us for costings).

Your staff member will be allocated a named assessor who will provide unlimited online support throughout the qualification. Following the taught 3 day programme, further tutorials can be arranged with the assessor, either face to face, online or via telephone, as required.

The price includes:

  • 3 day taught programme with expert advice and support from a highly experienced trainer
  • Course materials
  • Unlimited online support via Teams
  • Registration and certification

There are no hidden charges with this qualification. The face to face observation with their tutor is included in the price and conducted within the 2 day course. This ensures that Best for Training fully meets the observation requirements set by the Awarding Organisation and the Education and Training Foundation.

On successful completion of this qualification, your staff member will be a qualified assessor and will be able to carry out assessments in their area of occupational competence.

You may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:
