Is your safeguarding effective?
Safeguarding is of paramount importance as it is our duty to protect and educate our learners. It is also one of the key judgements that will be made about your provision and can have a major impact on your grade.
“If safeguarding is ineffective, this is likely to lead to a judgement of inadequate leadership and management.”
Ofsted – Further education and skills handbook, September 2022
Our experienced consultants, who are all former Ofsted inspectors, will complete a thorough review of your safeguarding policies and procedures and, crucially, the impact these have on the safety and wellbeing of your learners. Our consultants will ensure that key safeguarding topics are explored sensitively with staff and learners, for example, radicalisation, peer on peer abuse, online safety and British Values.
Safeguarding quality audits can take place remotely or face to face, depending on your requirements. Most quality audits last between 1 to 2 days but this varies according to the size of the organisation and the geographical spread.
Every safeguarding quality audit will be planned to meet your individual requirements, but typically includes:
• Interviews with Ofsted nominee, Senior Management Team and safeguarding governor
• Interview Designated Safeguarding Lead
• Review of key policies and procedures
• Discussions with learners to check their understanding and knowledge around key safeguarding topics
• Discussions with teaching and non-teaching staff
• Scrutiny of tracking and recording procedures
• Support and guidance for next steps and further improvements to provision
• Following the visit, you will be sent a key recommendations report.
At the end of each day, the consultants will meet with you and your team to share their findings and reflect on next steps.
The safeguarding quality audit will provide you with an external view of the effectiveness of the organisation’s safeguarding. Best for Training’s safeguarding quality audit is an essential tool in ensuring you are Ofsted ready and providing a safe environment for your learners and staff.

Safeguarding (whole-provider level)
“This evaluation area considers whether:
- the provider establishes an open and positive safeguarding culture that puts learners’ and apprentices’ interests first
- leaders take an effective whole-provider approach to safeguarding
Inspectors focus on the factors that statutory and non-statutory guidance, research and inspection evidence indicate contribute most strongly to safeguarding. This is so that learners and apprentices who need help and protection receive high-quality support.”
