Best for Training’s distance learning Highfield Level 4 Leading Internal Quality Assurance Qualification is for those who lead a team of at least 2 Internal Quality Assurers and require a leading IQA qualification. Internal Quality Assurers (IQA) are in demand internationally and this qualification is essential for anyone undertaking quality assurance in their role. This is an excellent qualification which also shows your leadership and organisational skills.
To gain this qualification, you will need to complete three mandatory units:
- Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment
- Unit 2 – Internally assure the quality of assessment
- Unit 3 – Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility
To complete unit 2, you must have at least two assessors with two candidates you can quality assure.
To complete unit 3, you must be able to evidence that you lead a team of at least 2 other IQAs and plan, allocate and monitor their work.
It is recommended that you hold a level 3 assessor qualification before beginning this qualification.
If you are not currently in an IQA role, then the Level 4 Award in Understanding Assessment Principles and Practice may be more suitable for you.
Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
To gain this qualification, you will need to complete three mandatory units:

- Unit 2 – Internally assure the quality of assessment
- Unit 3 – Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

When you enrol with us, you will be allocated an experienced assessor and receive a textbook (Ann Gravells, Principles and Practices of Quality Assurance: A guide for internal and external quality assurers in the FE and Skills Sector) and resources to support you with your qualification. You will begin working on unit 1. Your assessor will provide guidance and feedback on your written work.
You must complete of a portfolio of evidence that will cover all assessment criteria for the required units.
Unit 1 assessment
- you must complete an assignment which covers assessment criteria. You can submit this in intervals for ongoing support and feedback from your expert tutor.
- you will participate in a planned professional discussion with your tutor to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of assessment.
Unit 2 assessment
- direct observation – you will be observed working with an assessor by your tutor or a suitable person in your workplace
- you must provide work products to demonstrate your competence in IQA
- IQA records from your two assessors (evidence of sampling plans, IQA reports and standardisation)
- additional work product evidence, as required by your tutor, for example, emails, reflective accounts, minutes of meetings.
Unit 3 assessment
- direct observation – you will be observed working with your IQAs by your tutor or a suitable person in your workplace
- IQA records from your two IQAs (evidence of supporting IQAs, sampling plans, IQA reports and standardisation)
- additional work product evidence, as required by your tutor, for example, emails, reflective accounts, minutes of meetings
- detailed reflective account evidencing your leadership and organisations of your IQA team
You will have 6 months from enrolment to complete the qualification, although you may complete earlier.
You will be allocated a named assessor who will provide you with unlimited online support throughout the qualification. You will have a face to face online induction with your assessor to plan your first steps and answer any questions you may have. Further tutorials can be arranged with your assessor, either face to face, online or via telephone, as required.

On successful completion of this qualification, you may wish to consider the Highfield Level 4 Award In Understanding the External Quality Assurance (EQA) of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF) This qualification is the first unit in the full EQA qualification required by Awarding Organisation to undertake the role of a External Quality Assurer (EQA). By gaining this knowledge qualification, you will be taking the first steps towards this role. It is also excellent CPD for any IQA who wants to ensure their organisation is fully prepare for the External Quality Assurance visits.
