Best for Training’s Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is the ideal course for you if you teach or train others. This is a nationally recognised qualification and is an opportunity to enhance your skills and ensure you are training to a high standard.

You  do not need to have previous experience teaching or training ,although you may have already achieved the Award in Education and Training. This course will develop your experience and  understanding of teaching and assessment and will gain a nationally recognised accredited level 4 qualification. It may also be of interest to assessors who wish to gain a recognised teaching qualification.

There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of practice for this qualification. There is no requirement to evidence working with groups of learners to achieve this qualification unless units are undertaken which specify that purpose. Three hours of observation will required to complete this qualification.

Although it is not a requirement, it is effective practice for every trainee teacher to be allocated a subject specialist mentor from their workplace whose role is to provide specialist advice and information on the successful teaching of a specific subject. Ideally the mentor will be working in, or be familiar with, the trainee’s place of teaching practice so that the mentor can support the trainee locally. If you cannot identify a workplace mentor this does not disqualify you from the qualification.

What does the training include?

Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training consists of a excellent choice of units which meets the needs of a range of teaching and training environments.

In order to achieve the Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) you must achieve a minimum of 36 credits overall. In order to complete this, you must achieve the following rules of combination:

There are  5 mandatory units that must be fully completed to gain the qualification.

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training

There are a wide range of optional units to personalise the learning experience and ensure its relevant for your teaching role. You will need to complete 15 credits from the optional group. If  you have already have achieved the assessor qualification or the Award in Education and Training there is possible Recognition of Prior Learning available after discussion with your  tutor.

How is the qualification assessed?

You must complete of a portfolio of evidence that must covers all assessment criteria  which includes a series of written assignments, reflective accounts, witness statements and work products which are submitted for assessment a through out the course.  You will receive verbal and written feedback on your work and the opportunity to resubmit if further evidence is required. You will be given detailed feedback after each teaching observation to discuss how you can improve your teaching.

There must be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours. This excludes any observed practice completed as part of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Any single observation must be a minimum of half an hour. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a trainee teacher’s progress. You  must successfully achieve ‘good’ observation grades for at least one out of three of mandatory teaching observations, and evidence the 30 hours teaching practice.

The three observations must be linked to the following mandatory units and can also provide evidence of the optional units:

  • Delivering education and training (Level 4)
  • Assessing learners in education and training (Level 4)
  • Using resources for education and training (Level 4).
