Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) 5 Day taught group programme

Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training consists of an excellent choice of units which meets the needs of a variety of different teaching and training environments.

In order to achieve the Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) learners must achieve a minimum of 36 credits overall.

There are five mandatory units that must be fully completed to gain the qualification.

• Unit 1 – Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
• Unit 2 – Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
• Unit 3 – Delivering education and training
• Unit 4 – Assessing learners in education and training
• Unit 5 – Using resources for education and training

There are a wide range of optional units to personalise the learning experience and ensure it is relevant for their teaching role and your organisation.  If learners have achieved the assessor qualification or Level 3 Award in Education and Training, there are possible Recognition of Prior Learning opportunities available after discussion with their tutor.

Staff must complete of a portfolio of evidence that must cover all assessment criteria. This includes four short answer written assignments. Staff will also provide reflective accounts, witness statements and work products which are submitted for assessment throughout the course.  Staff will receive verbal and written feedback on their work and the opportunity to resubmit, if further evidence is required. They will be given detailed feedback after each teaching observation to discuss they can improve their teaching.

There must be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours. Any single observation must be a minimum of half an hour. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a trainee teacher’s progress. Observations can include online teaching and face to face. Learners must successfully achieve ‘good’ observation grades for at least one out of the three mandatory teaching observations, and evidence their 30 hours of teaching practice.

Your staff may use an observer from your workplace but the observer must hold an minimum of the Level 4 Certificate in Education and should be in a senior role such as line manager, observer or IQA.  Best for Training will provide observation guidance and paperwork to your observer to support them in this important role. If you require an observer to be provided from Best for Training then there will be a small additional cost.

The three observations provide evidence to the following units and can also provide evidence for the optional units:

• Unit 3 – Delivering education and training (Level 4)
• Unit 4 – Assessing learners in education and training (Level 4)
• Unit 5 – Using resources for education and training (Level 4)

This is a full time one week programme (Monday to Friday) for a minimum of 8 learners, taught onsite at your workplace or training venue. Learners will spend the day with our trainer (usually 9am – 3pm) and  they will be set 1-2 hours homework in the afternoon for independent study.  All learners will be issued with the course textbook, worth £25,  to support them in their independent study. All mandatory and optional units are taught on this programme and completed in the week. Learners would be set an assignment each afternoon, which will be marked the following day. They will then be set a final assignment on the last day of the course to be submitted within 10 working days. This will complete their portfolio of knowledge evidence.

On the final day of the course, all learners will complete their first observed teach with their trainer.  Learners will  be expected to have two further observations, totalling 2.5 hours, which can be carried out by a suitably qualified member of your staff, or by a member of Best for Training, for a small additional fee. While your member of staff is on the programme, they will continue to benefit from ongoing support from their class tutor, until the course is completed. Once the observations have been completed, and your member of staff has evidenced 30 hours of teaching practice, their full certificate will be claimed; we usually expect this be within 12 weeks from the start of the course.
