Candidates will build on their experience and understanding of teaching and assessment and will gain a nationally recognised accredited level 5 qualification. Staff must be training or teaching learners for a minimum teaching practice requirement of 100 hours over the duration of the course.

There are 4 mandatory units that must be fully completed to gain the qualification.

- Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
- Theories, principles and models in education and training
- Wider professional practice in education and training
There are a wide range of optional units that can be selected based on the training needs of staff and individuals.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How is the qualification assessed?” tab_id=”1507985408182-9c9cd218-7edc”][vc_column_text]Staff must complete of a portfolio of evidence that must cover all assessment criteria which includes a series of written assignments which are submitted for assessment at the end of each daily session. Staff will receive verbal and written feedback on their work and the opportunity to resubmit if further evidence is required. Staff must successfully achieve ‘good’ observation grades for six out of eight of their mandatory teaching observations, and evidence the 100 hours teaching practice.
There must be a minimum of eight observations totalling a minimum of eight hours. This excludes any observed practice completed as part of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. Any single observation must be a minimum of half an hour. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a trainee teacher’s progress.
The eight observations must be linked to the following mandatory units:
- Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
- Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training

Option 1 on site taught blended route
The course will be delivered in 12 one day workshop which we recommend are delivered once a month at your place of work. At the end of the workshops, staff will have fully completed the training required and will have completed their observations, which will be booked at mutually convenient times. Staff will be set work at the end of every workshop session that must be completed by the start of the next session, this will take approximately 8-10 hours. Therefore, overall the programme will last 12-18 months allowing staff to complete their teaching hours, portfolios and observations. There must be at least 6 learners in the cohort for this programme of delivery.
Option 2 blended distance learning course.
Learners are allocated a tutor and they will complete a half day induction either face to face or remotely. This is followed by an individual learning plan based online tutorials and support. Over the length of the course observations will be planned to show the development of skills and knowledge. Therefore, overall the programme will last 12-18 months allowing staff to complete their teaching hours, portfolios and observations.
