Level 5 Diploma in Counselling

New

This Level 5 Diploma in Counselling course is aimed at existing qualified counsellors who adhere to a professional code of ethics and wish to embed their current knowledge in their practice.

There are 2 pathways. You can choose a specialism from:

  • Working with Children and Young People
  • Bereavement and loss

You could also choose to complete both optional units, at an additional fee of £350.

It offers the chance to develop understanding of the importance of theory, ethics and reflective practice to positive outcomes for clients.  The course will provide depth to current practice and allow for a choice of study in an area that may not be addressed in current work but is relevant to expanding practice.

This course will also provide you with 45 hours of relevant counselling CPD.

The Level 5 Diploma consists of 2 mandatory modules –

Module 1: Application of Theory to practice: This module will investigate the importance of theory to practice.  Consideration will also be given to ethical frameworks and their relevance in the modern face of counselling.

Module 2: Developing Reflective Practice: This module will allow the participants to improve their reflective skills and be able to link successful reflective practice with positive clinical outcomes for client work.

Plus one elective module on either

Model 3: Working with Children and Young People:  This module will provide understanding around areas of practice that need to be considered when preparing to work with children and young people.  Looking at the purpose of counselling with this client group and common issues that are relevant.  Safeguarding and multi-agency working will be investigated.

Or

Module 4: Bereavement and loss: This module will provide an understanding of grief and bereavement on clients lives including current theory applications and limitations, factors influencing grief, complicated grief, cross-cultural issues and a practical approach for practice.

You could also choose to complete both optional modules, at an additional fee of £350.

Entry Requirements

The Diploma is aimed at qualified counsellors and therapists who wish to gain a higher level certificate.

You will be expected to provide evidence of your qualified counsellor status at your first session. This could be a copy of your certificate or your registration documents with BACP or National Counselling Society (NCS).

On course requirements

  • You must provide the set course text book, John McLeod, An Introduction to Counselling
  • You must demonstrate ethical practice and evidence of your supervision, if you are in current practice.

You will be assessed through:

  • Personal reflective journals throughout the course
  • 10 minute case presentation
  • 3,000 word essay on optional module

On successful completion of your course, you will be graded Distinction, Merit or Pass.

There are no exams for this qualification.

Once you have completed the taught sessions and achieved all your assessments you will be issued with your certificate.

  • If you complete both optional units, you will receive 2 separate certificates showing your achievement in both level 5 specialisms.

The taught sessions are for 15 weeks, for 3 hours per week on Tuesday evenings.

Tuesdays 6.00pm – 9.00pm

22/1/19 – 2/4/19 – 10 weeks – 2 mandatory modules

23/4/19 – 21/5/19 – 5 weeks – Children & Young People optional module

4/6/19 – 2/7/19 – 5 weeks – Bereavement & Loss optional module

The price includes:

  • Highly qualified trainers and counsellors

Catherine Drewer

Catherine has a First Class Honours Degree in Counselling and a successful private practice working with a range of clients.  She works in schools with pupils of various ages (6-18) as well as providing Supervision for staff.  She is an experienced teacher of Counselling and a Clinical Supervisor as well as an experienced trainer.  Catherine is an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS), a member of BACP and is committed to promoting the professional standing of trained counsellors.   She is currently studying for her Masters in Clinical Supervision.

Catherine has a real passion for counselling work and likes nothing better than to demonstrate this passion to others. Her classes are thought provoking and informative and she believes that everyone should learn about counselling because it will change the way they look at things.

Ronald Davis

Ronald, an experienced counsellor, professional coach, facilitator, tutor and workshop presenter has an extensive work history in government and not-for-profit sectors dating back to 1982.

Ronald is guided by three values:

• Excellence – there are always better ways

Ronald holds a Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) and post graduate qualifications in health science and nutrition. He has a Diploma of Workplace and Business Coaching and holds vocational qualifications in life coaching, training and assessment, management (frontline and team) and governance. He holds accreditation in Belbin Team Roles and DISC Advanced.

On successful completion of this course, you can consider expanding your practice, developing your career progression or consider employment in a relevant organisation.
