Advanced Counselling Supervisor Programme

This 45 hour course delivered over 15 weeks is aimed at experienced and qualified counsellors who adhere to a professional code of ethics. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge and create an additional offer to your existing counselling services.

Unlike most other Supervision courses Best for Training offer the chance to learn about a number of supervision models and the characteristics and features of each allowing the successful candidate to identify the model that best fits with them and their mode of practice.  The course participants also have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the implications of their own behaviours and interventions on the supervisee thus allowing review and reflection of their supervisory styles.

This course will build awareness of the importance of ethical principles and frameworks in supervisory practice and encourage participants to critically evaluate their ethical approaches to Supervision demonstrating a robust process for ethical decision making that allows them and their supervisees to feel secure and supported in their work with clients.

Participants will practice and develop supervision skills throughout and will need to supervise at least 1 supervisee during the course to achieve the minimum of 10 hours of practice as a supervisor that is required to complete.

The 15 week programme consists of 3 modules

Module 1: Theory and Frameworks of Supervision: This module investigates the 3 broad categories of Supervision and investigates each in some depth giving the participants a solid foundation for the work that they will do as Supervisors

Module 2: Application of Theory to practice: To ensure that the learning is more than theoretical this module will develop the participant’s practical skills as a supervisor. The achievement of this module will be demonstrated in class with peers and in the reflective essay of work completed with at least 1 supervisee for no less than 10 supervision sessions

Module 3: Reflective approach to being a Supervisor: This module will allow the participants to improve their reflective skills and acknowledge the unique reflections that are required when being jointly responsible for supervisee’s practice: allowing development of ethical understanding, patience and identifying any underlying points of personal development.

Additional requirements: participants will require a least one volunteer supervisee for at least 10 supervision sessions in order to complete this Diploma
