Best for Training’s Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is the ideal course for staff who teach or train others. It is an opportunity to enhance your employees’ skills and ensure they are providing training to a high standard. This is a nationally recognised qualification and helps to demonstrate you are working to develop your staff and meet Ofsted requirements for staff CPD.

Learners do not need to have previous experience teaching or training, although some may have already achieved the Award in Education and Training. This course will develop their experience and understanding of teaching and assessment and  staff will gain a nationally recognised accredited level 4 qualification. It may also be of interest to assessors who wish to gain a recognised teaching qualification.

There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of practice for this qualification. There is no requirement to evidence working with groups of learners to achieve this qualification unless units are undertaken which specify that purpose. Three hours of observation will required to complete this qualification. It is expected that learner will have a workplace mentor to support them during the qualification.

This is an ideal programme to enhance the quality of training that your staff deliver to others, whether internally or externally.

What does the training include?

Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training consists of a excellent choice of units which meets the needs of a range of teaching and training environments.

In order to achieve the Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) learners must achieve a minimum of 36 credits overall. In order to complete this, learners must achieve the following rules of combination:

There are  5 mandatory units that must be fully completed to gain the qualification.

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training

There are a wide range of optional units to personalise the learning experience and ensure its relevant for  their teaching role .Learners will need to complete 15 credits from the optional group. If learners have achieved the assessor qualification or Award in Education and Training there are possible Recognition of Prior Learning opportunities available after discussion with their tutor.

How is the qualification assessed?

Staff must complete of a portfolio of evidence that must cover all assessment criteria  which includes a series of written assignments, reflective accounts, witness statements and work products which are submitted for assessment a through out the course.  Staff will receive verbal and written feedback on their work and the opportunity to resubmit if further evidence is required.  Staff must successfully achieve ‘good’ observation grades for at least one out of three of their mandatory teaching observations, and evidence the 30 hours teaching practice.

There must be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours. This excludes any observed practice completed as part of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Any single observation must be a minimum of half an hour. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a trainee teacher’s progress. Its expected that the workplace mentor will undertake one of the assessed observations. Detailed support and feedback will be given to help develop learners’ teaching skills.

The three observations must be linked to the following mandatory units and can also provide evidence of the optional units:

  • Delivering education and training (Level 4)
  • Assessing learners in education and training (Level 4)
  • Using resources for education and training (Level 4).
What are the options for model of delivery?

Learners are expected to complete the qualification within six months. However, this can be reduced based on the previous experience and knowledge of the learner.

There are  2 options available to employers

Option 1

A full time two week programme for a minimum of 8 learners. All mandatory and optional units would be taught on this programme and learners would be expected to complete all the portfolio elements for their mandatory and optional units at the end of the two weeks. After the taught element, each learner would be allocated an observer who would complete the observations which will be planned to show the development of skills and knowledge. Observations can also be completed via video and workplace mentors can complete one of the 3 assessed observations.

Option 2

This is a blended learning programme. Learners are allocated a tutor and they will complete a  half day induction either face to face or remotely. This is followed by an individual learning plan based on online tutorials and support. Over the length of the course, observations will be planned to show the development of skills and knowledge. Observations can also be completed via video and workplace mentors can complete one of the 3 assessed observations.

What does the price include?

The price includes:

  • Highly qualified and experienced tutor and observer
  • Online support
  • Course materials
  • Registration and certification
  • Postage of certificates
