Highfield Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (PFA – Blended 1 Day Learning)

New

Our Highfield Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (PFA – Blended 1 Day Learning) offers you confidence, practical skills and knowledge so you would know what to do in a first aid emergency.

Everyone responsible for children, parent or professional, should be able to deal with children’s illnesses and accidents and this course will equip you for such eventualities.

The blended  model allows you to gain the accredited Paediatric First Aid (12 hours) qualification in just one day! You will receive a pre training task to complete before the event and spend the day developing your confidence and  working on your practical skills.

Ofsted requires that all settings must have at least one Early Years practitioner with a full Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate. All newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30 June 2016, must also have either a full PFA or an emergency PFA certificate within three months of starting work in order to be included in the required staff: child ratios.

This nationally accredited qualification meets the highest standards in training set by Ofsted and fully meets the statutory requirements of the  Early Years Foundation Stage. This qualification also meets the requirements for accredited training as described by Millie’s Mark Foundation for settings wishing to gain this status.

The Award has 2 units which must be fully completed to gain the qualification:

  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies

Topics include the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider and providing first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally. The qualification also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with head and spinal injuries, who is choking or suffering from anaphylaxis. The training is very interactive with all attendees having time to practice their skills and gain confidence in administering first aid to babies and children.

This qualification is assessed by the following two methods:

  1. Practical assessment – Learners must demonstrate the practical first aid skills, during the sessions, as indicated within the Highfield assessment paperwork.
  2. Theory assessment – Learners must answer a series of written questions during the sessions using the Highfield assessment paperwork

The blended programme included 4 hours home study before the practical training day. You will be sent all the materials you need to complete a short workbook to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding. The training day is 9.00am-5.30pm during which your practical skills will be learned, practised and assessed. This means you will only need to take one day of ‘face to face’ training to complete the full Paediatric First Aid qualification.

The price includes:

  • Highly qualified trainer with a background of working with children
  • Paediatric first aid book
  • Registration and certification
  • Postage of certificates

The qualification is valid for a period of three years after which point learners must retake the course.  In addition, annual refresher training is strongly recommended.

    :

Amazing training, the more practical based training day helped build confidence in carrying out the first aid and the reading from the booklet and answering questions made it easier to remember, and this course was more relevant to children then any other course I have ever done

    :

Excellent delivery from facilitators of the course made it easier to understand and retain information and excellent amount of time to practice. It is definitely the best First aid course that I have attended and feel that I have learnt so much more and this in turn has made me feel more confident in my own abilities. I think the demonstrations used which were interactive made the course! Thank you!
