Best for Training’s on-site, UK-wide CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator- EYE) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.
This level 3 qualification has 30 UCAS points allowing progression onto higher education. This qualification is designed for working practitioners who wish to study on a part time basis.
Our award winning childcare team is highly qualified with all tutors qualified to degree level in childcare and with excellent vocational competence. This qualification meets all the requirements for qualified level 3 status for ratios in Early Years Statutory Framework (EYFS).
The qualifications is structured around three themes:
- Theme 1: Health and well-being
- Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
- Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
Topics include child development, theory and observation practice, physical and emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, partnership working and equality and diversity.
What is an Early Years Practitioner?
From September 2014 anybody who wishes to work as a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner will be required to complete this Early Years Educator course. It will be the only level 3 vocational qualification that will allow you to fully engage in childcare.
Early Years Practitioners will work in various settings to care for babies and children aged from birth to five years old and have an understanding of children aged 5 – 7 years. It will be the role of the Early Years Educator to help the children learn, develop and prepare for school. The EYP may support Early Years teachers or indeed may deliver the childcare and teaching themselves.
- Learners must pass all units by presenting a portfolio of evidence
- Learners must complete longitudinal study
- Learners must show competence in a real work environment via assessor observations of practice, witness statements and work products
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. We recommend 350 hours across the age ranges.
Taught sessions for 5 hours per week for 50 weeks. All learners should gain their qualification within 18 months of beginning the programme.

Early Years Educator: GSCE English and Maths Requirement
From 3 April 2017, the requirement for Level 3 Early Years Educators (EYE) to hold GCSE English and maths A*-C, will be broadened to Level 2 qualifications, including Functional Skills. This will also apply to an apprenticeship route. This will enable staff with an EYE qualification and Level 2 English and mathematics qualifications to count in the Level 3 staff: child ratios in childcare settings. This includes those who already hold an EYE qualification, began studying an EYE from September 2014 or will achieve an EYE in the future. Please refer to the Early Years Workforce Strategy (March 2017) for further details.
International qualifications can be checked through NARIC.
An enhanced DBS (CRB) check will be required at the start of the course.
Once you have your Early Years Educator qualification you will be able to be counted in EYFS ratio to practice as an Early Years Educator. You will be able to work in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors doing things like:
